“Recently, I experienced the confusion and frustration with having to find temporary placement for my father-in-law who had a lengthy hospital and nursing home stay, and still was not ready to safely manage his own care at home. I was not able to manage his care at my home as I did not have a full bathroom or a bedroom on the main floor of my home. I didn’t want my father-in-law to be secluded in an upstairs bedroom away from the main living areas. My experience was difficult when dealing senior placement resources and Senior Citizen Services. Therefore, I decided to manage the placement myself. I used my nursing / case management experience and found the process easy for me to complete. I had my father-in-law transferred to the family’s first choice facility within two days. He was able to rehabilitate for 2 months, then safely transfer back to his home. The private senior assisted home that he stayed at was wonderful. We could visit any time, call for updates, we even participated with his care and rehab. I would not have changed a thing because he got excellent care. I understand how frustrating it can be in this type of situation. My goal is to educate others about the available options and assist with a seamless transition.” Lynn Riddell Berry, Senior Options Service
